Emmit M. McAlister passed from this life to the next peacefully on January 25, 2023 at 92 years of age at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, LA. Emmit was born on March 17, 1930 in Baton Rouge where he was the youngest of 8 children. Emmit is a veteran of the Korean War where he saw action in the United States Army. After the war, Emmit worked as an ironworker in Baton Rouge. He loved working with his hands, repairing things, and vehicle restoration projects. Emmit loved his family, especially all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He married Antoinette DeJohn in 1952, and they resided in Baton Rouge until 1968 when they moved to Baker, LA. Antoinette passed away suddenly in 1980, and Emmit never remarried. When asked why he never remarried he said, “you know, I’ve already had the best.” Emmit is preceded in death by his parents, 7 siblings, wife Antoinette DeJohn McAlister, and great grandson Blaze Kilpatrick. Emmit is survived by his two sons Rickey M. McAlister, Sr. (Connie) and Brad K. McAlister (Sonya), 4 grandchildren, Rickey M. McAlister, Jr., Summer A. McAlister, Christie A. Walters, and Crystal G. Ivy and 13 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 AM on Monday, January 30th at Rabenhorst Funeral Home on Florida Blvd. In Baton Rouge with the funeral service directly following. Emmit will be buried at Mount Zion Cemetery in Prairieville, LA with Emmit’s son, Rev. Rickey M. McAlister, Sr. officiating the services. Emmit will be deeply missed but will live on through the wonderful memories shared by so many who love him.
