
He was a retired ammonia production manager with Allied Chemical, Geismar, who after retirement, worked as an internationally known consultant in ammonia fertilizer production. A resident of Baton Rouge and native of Dawes, W.Va., he died of natural causes at his home at 3:10 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, at age 91. Visiting will be at Broadmoor Baptist Church on Friday, Jan. 6, from 9:30 a.m. until service at 11 a.m., conducted by Dr. Terry Ellis. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Survived by his wife, Madge Boyd Holcomb; daughter, Martha Holcomb Thornhill and husband John; son, James Eugene Holcomb and wife Donna; grandsons, Scott D. Holcomb and wife Denise, and Jesse T. Head and special friend Rhonda Smith; granddaughters, Amy Holcomb Devine and husband Kevin, and Dana Head Crabtree and husband Joseph; and eight great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, Howard Harmon and Carrie Ryan Holcomb; brothers, Robert Holcomb and Harold Holcomb; and an infant sister. He earned his bachelor's degree in chemistry from Marshall University in 1943. Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph Hospice or Broadmoor Baptist Church.
