Evelyn was born June 18, 1921, to Van Elmer (Bill) Anglin and Bertha Mae Cutrer Anglin in Kentwood, LA. She was the eldest of four children. The family moved to Baton Rouge when Evelyn was 16 years old. She enrolled in the 11th grade at Istrouma High School. Because she was the only student that could type, she typed the 1st Istrouma year book called the Powwow. While at Istrouma her nickname was “Smiley” because she was always wearing her beautiful smile. The same smile she was wearing the day the Lord called her home. Evelyn and her husband, John, owned several businesses throughout their lives. They were: Andrews Six Mile Store, Hooper Road Hardware, Andrews Trucking, and lastly, Central Florist, which was so dear to her heart. She always loved to be of service to her many customers in the Central Area. At least five of her former employees went on to open their own shops and spread the beauty she had taught them. While her children were in elementary and high school, she was always available to be home room mother, active in the PTA, and fundraising projects- “Oh, those chicken and spaghetti dinners, what fun.” She was an inspiration to all who knew her, especially the residents of Whealdon Estates. Her love was shared by those who survive her.
