Evelyn was called home by our Heavenly Father at 11:35 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Mid City. She was 82, born Feb. 7, 1926, a native of Monticello, Miss., and a resident of Baton Rouge. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Thursday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a religious service at 7 p.m. in the chapel. Graveside service at Tilton United Methodist Church Cemetery, Jayess, Miss., at 1 p.m. Friday. She is survived by her three daughters, Gloria Smith, Vickie Smith and Pam Hammons and husband Danny; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, a sister and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husbands, James Smith and Frank W. "Sonny" Bennett; her son, Mitch Smith; a great-grandson, two sisters, two brothers and her parents.
