Inez married Richard Rowley Lipscomb on June 7, 1941, in the home of the Rev. Dearman in Kentwood. Richard and Inez started their life together in Clinton, and after the beginning of World War II, Richard accepted aposition with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which moved them to Shreveport, Vicksburg, Miss., and then Little Rock, Ark. Richard then transferred to the Canadian Yukon territory while Inez came back to her home in Kentwood while she worked for the telephone company in Hammond. When Richard returned from the Canadian Yukon, they made their home in Baton Rouge and had two sons, John Pemble Lipscomb and Rodney Kent Lipscomb, their pride and joy. Inez was extremely proud of her sons, who showed great devotion to their mother and father. Inez was an active member of the Baton Rouge community and her churches, Belfair Presbyterian Church and, later, Broadmoor Presbyterian Church. She was active in the Heirome Gaines chapter of the DAR, where she received a certificate of recognition for outstanding work on the American Indians Committee. Inez was also active working with the Cub Scouts and the Baton Rouge Homemakers Council, which was affiliated with the LSU Extension Service. She was a past president of the Sharp Homemaker Club and an excellent cook. A gentle soul, Inez always strived to do the right thing, leaving this world with no regrets. Inez was preceded in death by her mother, Thelma Inez Hammons, and father, Henry Redo Hughes; grandmothers, Nola Irene Hammons and Courtney Ophelia Dillon Raley; uncles, Walter William Hammons and his wife, Garland, Joe Lee Hammons and his wife, Uda, James Clifton Hammons, Arthur Wallace Hammons and his wife, Virginia, and Virgil Hammons and his wife, Estelle.
