Evelyn Tanner Mayo, age 94, a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, LA passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2024. She was born on February 7, 1930 to the late Marvin Lee Westbrook and Anna Rebecca Dougherty.
Evelyn was a devoted housewife and loving mother of five who dedicated most of her life taking care of her family. She pursued a degree in Culinary Arts once her children were grown and with the help of her daughter, Debra and the artwork of her oldest granddaughter, Angela her dream of creating a cookbook became a reality. This cookbook is now a staple in her family members’ homes. Evelyn was a dietician and worked in various nursing homes and school cafeterias. She had a love for gardening, which she inherited from her mother, dancing, sewing, baking and decorating cakes. At family gatherings when the music began playing, she danced and sang her heart out. Her great-grandchildren loved it when she sang little tunes that made them laugh, a memory that will truly be cherished.
Evelyn is survived by her children, Keith Tanner (Linda), Debra Maggio (Steve), Sherri Pourciau, Michael Tanner (Patti); 14 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; son, Marvin “Mel” Tanner; granddaughters, Angela Main and Shelly Maggio; sisters, Beatrice Aucoin (Ed) and Violet Bennett (Julian); and her brothers, Marvin Lee Jr., and James “Jim” Westbrook.
Evelyn was the matriarch who put her family ahead of herself. She will be missed and her memory will be a blessing to all who knew her.
