

"Florence "Flo" Finch Smith, a native of Kentwood and resident of Baton Rouge, died on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at the age of 94. She was a member of Istrouma Baptist Church and of Louisiana Women Veterans. She was a graduate of the University of Southwestern Louisiana while she was raising her four children. She was a World War II veteran who served as a Sargent in the Army WAC Medical Corps. She worked for the State of Louisiana and retired as an investigator with the Department of Labor. She enjoyed doing aerobics at the YMCA and loved her instructor Adrian Brumfield. She also enjoyed painting with watercolors, playing bridge with several groups, and spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by: three children - Charlotte Smith Powell of Lafayette, Benny Smith of Baton Rouge, and Jennifer Smith Ratelle and her husband Jay, of Baton Rouge; three grandchildren "“ Michael Powell and wife Kayla, Jenee Ratelle Clark and husband Hayden, and Jessica Ratelle; and one great-grandchild "“ Hayden Clark, II. She was preceded in death by: her mother, Lottie Loving French; her father, John Finch; her eldest son, John Jeffrey Smith; her only sister, Ruth Finch Brumfield and her husband, Buford; her niece, Donna Ruth Brumfield; her granddaughter, infant girl Powell; her former husband, Tom M. Smith and his wife, Bee; and her in-laws, Ruford Smith, Sr. and his wife Lou, and Ruford Smith, Jr. and his wife Barbara. Visitation at Istrouma Baptist Church, 10500 Sam Rushing Dr., Baton Rouge on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 from 9am until 12 noon with a services to follow officiated by Rev Ron Lambe.
