
Retired owner of Custom Paint and Body Shop, he died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, at Golden Age Nursing Home. He was 87, a resident of Denham Springs and a native of Plaquemine. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife, Eula Mae Thompson La Porte; two daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret L. and William G. Elgin Sr. and Janet L. and Marvin D. Willett, all of Denham Springs; stepdaughter, Linda Binder Ross, of Baton Rouge; two sons, Frankie J. La Porte, of Baton Rouge, and Clyde J. and wife Carrie J. La Porte, of Denham Springs; two stepsons, Joey Binder, of Zachary, and Timothy Binder, of Baton Rouge; brother, Thomas A. La Porte Sr., of Baton Rouge, and his former wife, Nellie LeBlanc Franklin, of Denham Springs; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by four brothers, Victor J. Sr., Johnny J. Sr., Nicholas and Joseph La Porte Jr.; and parents, Joseph Sr. and Frances Passantino La Porte. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Thursday, Jan. 15, was from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. Visiting at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Denham Springs, on Friday from 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Entombment in Greenoaks Memorial Park, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge. Pallbearers will be F. Michael La Porte, Mark La Porte, Bo Langlois, Steven La Porte, J. Jacob Clark and Thomas A. La Porte Jr. Honorary pallbearers are Aubrey Guitreau, Paul Lewis, Marvin Willett, William Elgin Sr., Clyde La Porte, Frankie La Porte and Thomas A. La Porte Sr. Special thanks to the staff at Golden Age Nursing Home and Generations Hospice personnel, especially Donna and Anne.
