

Frederick Jon Mendenhall, loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 2, 2016, a few hours after surgery. Fred was born on December 18, 1942 in Medford, Oregon where his father was stationed during World War II. While he was still an infant, he and his mother made the long train ride across the country to their home in Roseville, Pennsylvania where he grew up. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, John Blain Mendenhall, Jr. and Mary Madeline Mckinley Mendenhall and his step-son Ian Nathaniel Lester. He is survived by his wife, Josette Manar Lester, his son, Jon Frederic Mendenhall and his wife Kimberly Ann Mendenhall, his daughter, Terri Marie Mendenhall Brown, his grandchildren, Angela Marie Brown Hughs and husband Trevor Wells Hughs, Grant Robert Brown, and Emily Ann Mendenhall, his step-children Cyrus Graham Lester, Rosemari Lester and husband Kyle Joseph Tuminello, and step-grandchildren Hailey Marie Lester, Reubin Nathan Wilks, and Elizabeth Ann Tuminello. Fred was a retired high school biology teacher and after retirement owned Allegheny Outfitters, a canoe and kayak outfitting business in Warren, PA on the Allegheny River. After a particularly cold Pennsylvania winter Fred looked south to live and he found his wife, Josette Lester. He moved to Louisiana in 2003 settling in Saint Francisville in 2005 where he found love, friends, nature, year-round gardening, and time to travel the world. Many mornings he said, "Another day in paradise". He will be sorely missed. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 13, 2016 at the Unitarian Church, 8470 Goodwood Boulevard.
