

Gail Goings Brooks went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008. She was a faithful wife, a devoted mother with unconditional love, and a happy and caring friend to all who knew her. She shared all her love and devotion with her parents and brother. She passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family, following a lengthy battle with liver failure. Gail is survived by her husband of 28 years, Roy Cleveland Brooks Jr., Ph.D.; sons, Christopher Roy Brooks and Connor Nelson Brooks; daughter, Elizabeth Rinehart Brooks; grandson, Brooks Kleinpeter Turner; devoted parents, Nelson and Mary Elizabeth Goings; brother and sister-in-law, Austin and Kim Goings; and niece, Parker Goings, of Houston. Born Aug. 7, 1951, in Brookhaven, Miss., she had been a resident of Baton Rouge for the past 48 years. She was a graduate of Lee High School and LSU. She had a 33-year career with the East Baton Rouge Parish school system and Ouachita Parish schools, starting at Reddy Elementary, but spending most of her time at Parkview Oaks, and completing her career at Wedgewood Elementary. She was a member of University United Methodist Church, the Junior League, Alpha Delta Pi, numerous educational organizations and "The Seagals." Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., on Thursday, Sept. 11, was from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting at Broadmoor United Methodist Church, 10230 Mollylea Drive, on Friday from 1 p.m. until funeral service at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Gene Rives, the Rev. Fred Wideman and the Rev. Phil Woodland. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Serving as active pallbearers will be Kenneth E. Cox, John F. Ehricht, Mickey Freiberg, Russell B. Greer, R. Paul Ivey, J. Cleve Langlois, Robert V. McAnelly and Benjamin H. Smith. Honorary pallbearers are David G. Addison, Kerry M. Hawkins, Vaughn R. Meiners and Wiley B. Raborn. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Gail Goings Brooks Chapel Choir Tour Scholarship Fund at University United Methodist Church, 3350 Dalrymple Drive, Baton Rouge, LA 70802 or any Chase Bank to the account of benefit of Gail Goings Brooks, account no. 783137532 established by friends from LSU.
