George B. Edmonson passed away peacefully at the age of 88, on September 17, 2023, his family by his side. He graduated from Buckeye High School, Deville, Louisiana in 1954. Shortly after, he joined the United States Marine Corps where he earned the rank of Sergeant and proudly served his country in Korea and Japan. He then settled in Alexandria, La. and met the love of his life while working at Wolf’s grocery store. He and Jean were married in 1955 and spent 68 loving years together. His life exemplified a love of family and a strong sense of honor and character.
George spent his career in the insurance industry where he earned the professional certifications of CLU and CHFC. He was a charter member of the Marine Corps League - Choctaw Detachment 778 and served a tour as Commandant. He loved visiting schools, and talking about the Flag, Honor, and Duty. He spent over 20 years as a Marshall for the LSU Athletic Department, working the sidelines at LSU football and women’s basketball games. He also volunteered at the VA hospital in Baton Rouge for 24 years.
He was preceded in death by his son Randy, by his parents Roy and Louise Edmonson, his siblings Doris Lonider, Martha Metcalf, Sisley Ann Still, Janie Moore, Robert Edmonson, and Charles Edmonson.
Survived by his wife, Jean Edmonson, his sons Steve Edmonson (Linda), Mike Edmonson (Suzanne), and Paul Edmonson (Nikki). His sister, Nora Faye Nichols, and brother-in-law Russell Wilson. Grandchildren Michael, Brittney, Jacob, Dylan (Kaitlyn), Nicholas and Noah Edmonson. Lindsey Gauthier (Parker), Gregory Normand, Cade Leblanc, and Casey Dufrene (Tyler). Great grandchildren Blake, Quinn and Madeline Edmonson, Olivia, William, and Vivian Gauthier, and Stella Dufrene. He found great joy and pride in his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Dad, we will miss you immensely. You were always there for us when life got rough. We love you.
Visitation will be held at Rabenhorst Funeral Home (Government Street) on Thursday September 21, 2023 from 5-7pm, with a short service from 7-8pm. Burial will be held on Friday September 22, 2023 at 1pm at Greenwood Memorial Park Cemetery, 2202 Military Highway, Pineville, LA.
