

Gerry Brooks Laurent departed this life at the age of 87 and entered into the presence of the Lord on Tuesday, December 31, 2024. "Therefore you shall love the Lord with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.” Mark 12:30 When remembering Gerry Laurent, these core traits of faith, strength, and heart come to mind. Gerry was born February 25, 1937, in Falfurrias, TX, to Willie Gaston and Rosa Brooks. Gerry was a model of faith through her worship, prayer, and selfless acts. She possessed a compassionate manner underscored by a tenacious spirit that carried her through life’s trials, imparting these principles to her loved ones. Gerry cultivated lifelong relationships with friends and family because she loved wholeheartedly. She enjoyed family gatherings, word games, relaxing at the beach, and praying the Rosary. Gerry embraced life, especially treasuring her role as MawMaw or Maw G to her grandchildren. Her legacy continues through those who survive her, children, Chad Laurent (Anna Marie), Dana Amos (Brandon), Craig Laurent (Sandra), Danette LeBlanc (Trey), and Darlene Achée (Ehren); 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Jolene Chemin; and a host of other family members. Gerry is preceded in death by her son, Baby Boy Laurent; parents, Willie Gaston and Rosa Brooks; sisters, Gladys Edgens and Mary Brooks; brothers-in-law, Carroll Edgens and Jesse Ray Chemin; nieces, Sandy Owens and Sherry Parent; nephew, Kenny Chemin; and childhood forever friend, Delphine Ashford. Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, on Monday, January 6, 2025, from 5 pm to 7:30 pm. The Rosary will be led by Shannon Phillips at 6:30 pm. Visitation will resume Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at St. Isidore Catholic Church, 5657 Thomas Rd., Baker, LA, from 9 am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am.
