Gloria Lee Chiek, 63, of Central, Louisiana, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 24, 2025, surrounded by her family at her side. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose warmth, creativity, and devotion touched countless lives.
Gloria was born in Norfolk, Virginia on June 19, 1961, to proud parents Owen and Betty Bunch. Gloria graduated from Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach, class of 1979. While visiting family in Baton Rouge two weeks after her graduation, she met Stephen, the man who would become her husband of 45 years. They settled in Central, where they built a life together, meeting many friends who would also become family.
A dedicated homemaker in her daughters’ early years, Gloria later helped run the family business and also worked with the East Baton Rouge Parish School System for 25 years. She was a woman of many talents, with a gift for design, event planning, and the arts, often bringing beauty and joy to those around her through her creative endeavors. “Glo” loved life—enjoyed celebrating holidays and other special events with her loved ones every chance she got, spending time in her garden, and camping with her friends and family. When her girls were young, Gloria never missed their many activities and sporting events, often traveling out of state to attend, and volunteering at their schools. She also enjoyed many years with family and friends at the camp on False River.
Gloria was a devoted mother to her two children, Amanda Didier (Brandon) and Stephanie Nowacki (Henry), and a proud grandmother to her two grandchildren, Peyton Chiek and recently born Sabrina Nowacki. Gloria also leaves behind her baby sister, Peggy Gary, and many nieces and nephews. Her family was her heart, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
A faithful member of Journey Church in Central, she lived her life with grace and kindness, leaving a lasting impact on her community. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but we will cherish our wonderful memories with her and carry on her many special traditions.
Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA on Sunday, March 30th from 5pm-8pm and will continue Monday, March 31st from 9am-10am, with the funeral service beginning at 10:00am and burial immediately following.
