

A resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Cooky passed away peacefully at home on November 15, 2025. She was 82 and a native of Gibsland, Louisiana. Born on December 12, 1942, she was a graduate of Gibsland High School and LSU. Cooky was preceded in death by parents, Colton Pennington Shaffer and Mary Frances Shaffer, sister, Anita Kaye Shaffer, brothers, Vernon (Buck) Shaffer (Bobbie) and Harvey (Harv) Shaffer (Sue). She is survived by her husband of 63 years, William M. Coffey, children, Pamela Coffey Williams (Ben), Blake Coffey (Laura), two grandchildren, Julia and Colton Coffey, sister, Joyce Lilly (Roy, dec.) and a number of nieces and nephews. Cooky was employed as a bookkeeper by School Aids for 28 years. A member of First United Methodist Church for over 50 years, she was active in United Methodist Women (UMW), Covenant Sunday School Class, Church Council, and Board of Trustees. As a member of the Mission Outreach Committee she participated in that arm of the church by sharing God's love in Cambodia, South Africa, and Kenya. She was a UMW Circle leader for many years and participated as long as she was physically able.
Visitation will be at First United Methodist Church, Baton Rouge, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 20th, immediately followed by the service and inurnment at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church, 930 North Blvd, Baton Rouge,LA, 70802.
