
A retired teacher and a resident of Baton Rouge, she died Monday, April 14, 2008, in Baton Rouge. She was 86 and a native of New Orleans. Visiting at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church on Saturday, April 19, from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., with recitation of the rosary at 9:30 a.m. Monsignor Robert Berggreen will be the celebrant of the Mass. Interment in Roselawn Memorial Park. Survived by her daughter, Tsehaye Geralyn Marie Hébert Hunter; five sons, Jesse R. Hébert Jr. and Michael G. Hébert, both of Baton Rouge, Anthony K. Hébert and spouse Jackee, of Palmdale, Calif., Maurice S. Hébert and spouse Jee Hyun, of Los Angeles, and Myron S. Hébert and spouse Valerie, of Southport, Conn.; sister, Lois Taplin Bronz, of White Plains, N.Y.; brother, Lefeba J. Gougis, of Los Angeles; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, Jesse R. Hébert Sr.; father, Alexander C. Gougis; and mother, Elise Cousin. Pallbearers will be Jesse R. Hébert Jr., Michael G. Hébert, Anthony K. Hébert, Maurice S. Hébert, Myron S. Hébert and Hakeem Hébert-Hunter. She attended St. Mary's Academy, Xavier University in New Orleans and Southern University, Baton Rouge. She devoted nearly a half-century of service to the education of children at St. Francis Xavier Catholic School as a beloved first-grade teacher, then as a volunteer and substitute teacher. She was a member of St. Mary's Alumni Association, St. Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary and Lucky 12 Pokeno Club. Arrangements by Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St.
