Obituario de Haiganush "Haigo" Tchalekian Humphrey
EN EL CUIDADO DE

Greenoaks Funeral Home & Memorial Park

HAIGANUSH “HAIGO" TCHALEKIAN HUMPHREY, 94 years old. A longtime resident of LAFAYETTE, LOUISIANA, since 1981, passed away on MARCH 8, 2025 IN BATON ROGUE, LOUISIANA.

HAIGO was born on DECEMBER 8, 1930 to HENAZANT AND FERMANIAN TCALEKIAN in HAIFA, ISRAEL. Her family was Armenian, but due to the bitterness of wars many of the children of the previous generation were smuggled out of Armenia so that family lineages could live on. Her father, an architectural engineer who spoke many languages, was one of those children and met her mother, another. They married and raised five children with Haigo as the eldest. At some point they left Israel and moved to Beruit, Lebanon. After Haigo graduated from boarding school she worked as a translator. She was fluent in seven languages and familiar with a smattering of others.

In 1956, Haigo met Frank Austin Humphrey at a social event. They married and moved to Gainesville, Texas. That same year she took the US Citizenship test and became a US Citizen, but often joked that she also was a Citizen of the Texas (Texas was once a nation).

Haigo Humphrey and Frank Humphrey went on to have two children, Jerry Austin Humphrey of Arlington, TX and Yvette Grace Humphrey LaBauve of Baton Rouge, LA. She had one grandson Alex Austin Humphrey of Houston, TX.

Haigo spent her time traveling the world supporting her husband who worked in oilfields, while raising her two children. Her hobbies included knitting, needlepoint, sewing, china painting, collecting antiques, reading, gardening and baking.

Her husband Frank preceded her in death by nineteen years. Predeceased by her father Herant Tchalekian, mother Henazant Furmanian Tchalekian, brothers Alexander Tchalekian, Armenag “Libo’ Tchalekian, and sister Salpy Tchalekian. She is survived by her son, daughter and grandson.

Family is not always those whom one chooses by blood and with that she is also survived by her best friend Brenda Thomas and her family that loved her dearly and her daughter’s mother-in-law “Louisa” (inside joke) LaBauve and family. Ms. Haigo has her son-in-law called her had a soft spot for him and all the pets. She always remembered Matt LaBauve and especially the pets. She knew she had out lived everyone in her circle of friends., There will be no services held per her wishes. Her hope was that those who loved her would support her daughter to keep her family memory.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to keep our planet full of beautiful trees and gardens, as she felt strongly about this. If you are unable to sponsor a tree, her daughter asks that maybe you could plant something in your own garden and share that experience with your family.
