Harold “Hink” Anthony Couvillon was born in Baton Rouge, LA, on March 16, 1932. He left this earth for Heaven on Sunday, March 22, 2026. Harold, affectionately known as Hink, was the 3rd child of 11 children, born to Lucille Jean Landry and Dudley Joseph Couvillon, Sr. He was a graduate of Catholic High School and LSU. Hink served in the United States Army and then attended LSU on the "GI bill." One of his fondest memories in the military was playing on a softball team in his spare time. Hink was stationed in an artillery group, near Washington, DC, during his 2 years of service to his country. At LSU he was an outstanding accounting student. After his graduation, he worked in Denver, Colorado, then passed up a job in Idaho, because he felt the Lord was calling him to return to Louisiana. Not long after his return to Louisiana, his father died of a heart attack, leaving his mother a widow with her youngest child only 14 years old. Hink became head of the household, and he ran a harmonious home assisting his mother. Hink's surviving siblings are Jimmy (Audrey), Lawrence (Janet), Margaret Bell, Rev. Brother Louis Couvillon, SC, and Carole (Ronnie) Ackman. Hink's deceased siblings and their spouses are Brother Elliot Couvillon, SC, Maybelle (Alvin) Navarre, David (Peggy), Pat, Tommy (Dee) and Herb Bell. Harold had 4 great loves: his St. Patrick Church community; his extended family including siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; BASEBALL, especially the Yankees; and animals- cats and dogs. He was a member at St. Anthony of Padua Church for 52 years and St. Patrick for 42 years. Over the years at these parishes, he served as a reader, volunteer accountant, tabulator, prison minister, Blue Army member, Legion of Mary member, weekly Eucharistic adorer, and Rosary Leader. He attended Manresa retreats for decades and enjoyed Bible studies and other church events. He was active in the Respect Life movement and believed in a "seamless garment" for " pro- life"- from conception through a natural death, and he was against capital punishment. Hink was a runner and in earlier days bowled. He loved the cats and dogs who would show up at his door. He would adopt them, and the pets ruled his home. He loved his neighbors. The family is thankful to all of his caregivers, especially his sister Carole and her husband Ronnie who were next door neighbors and graciously and unwaveringly cared for him for over 40 years. Also dedicated to his care were his niece, Denise, his nephew, Stephen, niece, Gerianne, a registered nurse, his nephew and godson, Andrew, his sister, Margaret, who helped with the upkeep and renovation of his home, and his brother, Lawrence and his wife, Janet. Hink was a substitute father for his younger siblings, especially Carole. His brother, Louis who is an ordained Brother of the Sacred Heart counseled him spiritually. Visitation at St. Patrick Church will begin at 9 am on Saturday, March 28, 2026, followed by the rosary at 9:20 am, reflecting his love of Mother Mary. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10am. A reception for family and friends follows Mass at the St. Patrick Parish Hall and all are invited to attend. Inurnment will be held at a later date and time to be determined at Greenoaks Memorial Park near many family members already at rest. May he rest in peace.
