Helen Rome Hebert, born in Soulouque, LA, on June 29,1923 and raised in Plaquemine, LA, passed on to her Eternal Home on September 5, 2024 at the age of 101 to be with the love of her life for 70 years, Robert (Bobby) Hebert Sr. He has been waiting for her for 13 years at what is to be their last home living with Our Heavenly Father while looking over her loving family from afar. Helen lived the most amazing and full life for over a century. Being a woman of great faith she belonged to the Association of the Miraculous Medal all of her life since she attended Plaquemine High School. She was Valedictorian of her senior class earning her a 4 year scholarship to LSU. However, she chose to attend Baton Rouge Business College where she learned the skills to be a Superior Secretary and Business Woman. While there she met Bobby and they were married in 1942, just a few months before he went to serve our country in World War II. During the war she was a secretary for the War Manpower Commission Office in New Orleans. After the war, Helen and Bobby made Baton Rouge their forever home and she worked with the LA State Offices in the early fifties. Helen then decided to devote her time to her husband and their 3 children. That started her involvement in a multitude of hobbies and taking on leaderships with many organizations. She was spearheading Home Demonstration Clubs, became an active member in the Continental Dance Club, had a business making ladies custom hats by hand in the styles of the sixties, participated with St. George Parish Fairs, operated a one-woman Custom Wedding Cake business in her home kitchen, and lastly was Helen’s most creative and highly successful venture when she opened one of the first privately owned gift shops in town (attached to her home), “The Unique Gift Shop,” which she ran for 13 years until 1985. Helen made both of her daughters wedding gowns and the wedding cakes for all three children. Once retired, she and Bobby bought a fishing camp in Cocodrie, LA, and named it “The Unique Two.” They had the most wonderful memories of 13 years of fishing and socializing. In their eighties they decided to live in Assisted Living. More Fun and Socializing was enjoyed by both until Bobby’s passing at the age of 93 and 70 years of marriage. Helen continued to live in the assisted lifestyle until her final few months on earth at The House of Grace in Denham Springs where she had the most personal and compassionate staff care for her until her final day. Additionally, the nurses with Audubon Hospice helped make Helen’s transition to her new home peaceful and we are forever grateful for all who cared for her. Helen is survived by 3 children, Bobby Jr. (Maureen), Donna Belanger, and Gwen Dearing; 9 grandchildren; Rob Lehner (Jeanne), Sara Belanger Fails, Fran Belanger Dial, Michael Belanger, Jr. (Stacy), Rachel Walz, and Daniel Dearing (Tara); step grandchildren, Doreen Prejean (Doug), Stephanie Davis, and Angie Toups; 18 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren.
