
A native and resident of Baton Rouge, he passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2007, after a brief illness. He retired as chairman and CEO of City National Bank, and was chairman of First Commerce Corp. He was 86 and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Visiting at Congregation B'nai Israel, 3354 Kleinert Ave., was on Thursday, Aug. 9, from 8:30 a.m. until service at 11:30 a.m., conducted by Rabbi Barry Weinstein. Entombment was private. He is survived by a daughter, Marie "Mimi" Moyse Schlesinger and her husband, Claude, of New Orleans; two sons, Lewis Moyse and his wife, Sudie, of Greenville, Miss., and Hermann Moyse III and his wife, Janet, of Baton Rouge; a sister, Betty Moyse Simmons, of Baton Rouge; and three grandchildren, Allison Moyse, of Baton Rouge, David Moyse, of Washington, and Aaron Moyse, of Baton Rouge. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie L. "Rocky" Levy Moyse; and parents, Hermann Moyse Sr. and Rosalie Gottlieb Moyse. Serving as pallbearers will be David and Aaron Moyse, Paul Crespo, John Schlesinger, Joe Simmons and Will Wilcox. He was a member and past president of Congregation B'nai Israel, former director of the Bank of Zachary, and former director of Pan American Life Insurance Co. He graduated from LSU in 1942 as valedictorian of his class. He was actively involved with the Capitol Area United Way, Baton Rouge Area Foundation, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, Baton Rouge Hospice, Louisiana Arts and Science Museum and the LSU Foundation. In addition to his work with the LSU Foundation, he was honored by the Louisiana banking industry, which established the Hermann Moyse Jr. Chair of Banking at LSU. Moyse's lifelong interest in higher academics is evidenced by his endowment of the Eric Voeglin Professorship in the political science department at LSU.
