
A resident of Baton Rouge, she died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007. She was born Dec. 23, 1907, at the Oaks Plantation in West Feliciana Parish, daughter of Louis West and Susan Mary Barrow West, who were of West Feliciana Parish. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, John Clements Ellis, who was a native of San Antonio, and a longtime Baton Rouge resident; brother, William Connell West; and sisters, Mary Louise Hogeman, Bessie Sterling, Wyleta Constantine, Belle Daniel and Sidney Clarke, who were all of Baton Rouge. She is survived by her two children, John C. Ellis II and his wife, Deborah B. Ellis, of Albuquerque, N.M., and George W. Ellis and his partner, Rick Maith, of Orlando, Fla.; grandchildren, Leigh E. Mahnesmith and her husband, Tim Mahnesmith, of Montgomery, Ala., and John W. Ellis and his wife, Melissa Ellis, of Minneapolis; and great-grandchildren, Tyler W. Ellis and Jarrett L. Rolison. Mrs. Ellis was a longtime resident of Baton Rouge. She was a member of the local Chapter of Colonial Dames of the XVII Century in Baton Rouge, and a member of The Daughters of American Revolution. Mrs. Ellis was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Baton Rouge. She was an avid golfer and bridge player. Visitation will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., on Monday, Nov. 19, from 9 a.m. until funeral service at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
