
He retired as a chemical operator from BASF after 39 years of service. Hiram, a native of McComb, Miss., and a resident of Livingston, died at 4 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, 2011, at the Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Bluebonnet. He was 80 and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Monday, Sept. 5, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation resumes at the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, Sept. 6, from 9 a.m. until the religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Bill Holifield and the Rev. Bill Pianki. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. He is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Smith Ballard and husband Jason; two sons, Glynn Smith, and Jeff Smith and wife Paula; six grandchildren, Casey Wells and husband Jeremy, Mandy Stroud and husband Jeremy, Garrett Smith, Thomas Manno, Tiffany Manno and Meredith Smith; and three great-grandchildren, Aubrey Stroud, Callie Wells and Amelia Stroud. Hiram was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Ann Boudreaux Smith; parents, Hiram C. Smith Sr. and Fannie Mae Martin Smith; and four sisters, Adelle Smith, Mamie Dell Case, Lucille Honey and Dadie Dixon. Pallbearers will be Garrett Smith, Thomas Manno, Jeremy Wells, Jeremy Stroud, Dennis Smith and Spencer Smith. "Do not let your hearts he troubled. Trust in God, trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms.: If it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you.
