"Ida Louise McKiniry Mulhern Farabee, born August 24, 1929, in Hamden Highlands, Maine, passed away peacefully at her home in Baton Rouge on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, with her beloved daughters and son-in-law at her side. She loved to golf, dance, read, sew, watch movies and travel. She was someone who always thought of others much more than herself, and who accepted with grace and strength whatever hardships life brought her way. "Louise's" greatest joys in life were to give love and care to her two husbands, Lewis F. Mulhern Jr. (d. 1964) and Owen L. Farabee (d. 2009) and to be a devoted mother to her children, Susan Mulhern Spangenberg, Laura Mulhern Fourrier, and son-in-law, Keith Spangenberg. She was a beloved aunt to her two nephews who were like sons to her: Paul McKiniry (wife Cath Lee), and Fred Simpson (wife Toby and daughter, Katie). She is also survived by: a brother-in-law: Alton Mulhern; niece, Brenda Oettinger Lacombe; and stepchildren Mike Farabee, Tracy Farabee Anderson, Mark Farabee and their families. She was preceded in death by her parents, John C. McKiniry Sr. and Ida Fernald McKiniry; her brothers, John C. McKiniry Jr. (wife Shirley), and Robert B. McKiniry (wife Valerie); her nieces, Barbara Oettinger Hansen, Robin Mulhern Joly, sisters-in-law: Bessie Mulhern Oettinger (husband Bill), and Agnes Mulhern Simpson (husband Fred); a grandson, Troy Farabee; as well as numerous other family and friends. Louise naturally drew people to her with her warmth, infectious humor, and fun-loving spirit. She will be deeply missed by family, friends, and staff at the Haven at Windemere. Special thanks to Tedra, Dani, Kim, Denise and Sparkle for all of the kindness and love they gave to our mom. The family also wishes to especially thank Hospice of Baton Rouge for the outstanding care and countless expressions of love shown to our mother, and to each of us. We will always remember with love and gratitude Mary, Dana, Kim, Ximena and Pastor Jeff and the entire staff at the Butterfly Wing. A memorial service will be held in Fairfield, Maine, later this year, to be officiated by Revs. Susan and Keith Spangenberg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Baton Rouge.
