James Phillip Desselle, Sr.

James Phillip Desselle, Sr., born on October 24, 1928, in Bordelonville, LA, and a resident of Prairieville, LA, passed away on Friday, January 30, 2026, from malignant neoplasm of esophagus. He was 97 years old. James was a cherished husband, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a residential builder for 40 years in the Baton Rouge area. He loved hunting, fishing, and vegetable gardening. He was known for his calm ability to resolve conflicts.

James is survived by son, James Desselle, Jr. (Abi); daughter, Susan Desselle Rachal; grandchildren, Kevin Rachal, Stephanie Rachal, Daniel Desselle (Brandi), and Jason Desselle (Heather); great-grandchildren, Kayla Rachal, Ethan Rachal, Parker James Desselle, Ze’lie Marie Desselle, and Jase Glen Desselle. James is preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Cecile Lemoine Desselle; sons, Deryl and Glen Desselle; grandson, Scott Rachal; parents, Thomas Desselle and Mamiee Reason Desselle; and seven sisters and five brothers. Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, on Thursday, February 5, 2026, from 12:30pm until the time of funeral services at 2pm.
