James "Jim" Nolan Efferson was born on April 10, 1948, in Spokane, Washington. He married his high school sweetheart on July 17, 1966. He went to be with the Lord on July 11, 2021. Jim Efferson was a man of faith and a servant of the Lord. He spent over 40 years in the ministry as a youth minister, teacher, counselor, and pastor. He never met a stranger and always loved people with an open heart. Jim touched so many lives and shared his love of the Lord with so many. He enjoyed teaching Bible classes at the Louisiana State Penitentiary and teaching classes with the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He loved spending time with his family and loving on his granddogs. He is survived by his favorite redhead and wife, Cathy, and his loving family, Jaime and Scott Courtright; Caitlin, Grace, and Carter Courtright; Michelle Efferson and Shelley Genre. He often stood in the pulpit and said he looked forward to the day he would meet his Maker and that day has come. We know he was greeted with the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant," (Matthew 25:23). A memorial service will be held at Zoar Baptist Church, Saturday, July 17, 2021. Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. followed by a memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Greater Baton Rouge Baptist Association or Ochsner Health Baton Rouge Cancer Center in memory of Jim Efferson.
