James B. Evans III

"James B. Evans III, affectionately known as Jim or Bennie, born on September 30, 1934, passed away on May 29, 2017 after a valiant battle with cancer. He was 82. Jim was born in Ponchatoula and was raised in New Orleans and in Baton Rouge. He was a proud alumnus of Catholic High School, class of 1954, and attended LSU until 1957, when he joined the Army with his best friend to see the world. While stationed in Germany, to the great surprise of his family, he met and married his beautiful German bride, Marie. They would have celebrated 59 years of marriage on June 12. Jim was the consummate gentleman, always polite and gracious to a fault. He was also the original "hipster" dad-enjoying all music from jazz to rock and roll to country, and loved the cinema, being a particular fan of all things Star Wars and James Bond, which he loved to share with his daughter, Karen. Jim worked for Delta Southern as an accountant for 24 years, from 1959 thru 1983. He then went on to a twenty year career with the Baton Rouge Water Company, where he was the Manager of Accounting until his retirement. He considered his colleagues there as an extension of his family. Wherever he went, he gave a ready smile, a warm sense of humor, and generosity to toward all. He will be immensely missed. Jim is survived by his wife, Marie Evans; daughter, Karen Evans-Popsack and her husband Andrew Popsack of Dallas, Texas; and his sister, Patricia L. Evans of Baton Rouge. Visitation will be at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd, on Thursday, June 1, 2017, from 6pm until 8pm, and will resume on Friday at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 14040 Greenwell Springs Rd, from 9:30am until Mass of Christian Burial at 11am. Burial will follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park.
