
A loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, James E. Kelly Sr. died Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at his home after a brief illness with pancreatic cancer. He was 89, a native and resident of Baton Rouge. James was retired from Ormet Corp. and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Friday, July 17, was from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visiting at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Will McCue, celebrant. Burial with military honors will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Shirley Kelly and Garth Cook, Barbara Kelly, and Joyce and Daryl Pourciau; two sons and a daughter-in-law, James "Jay" Kelly Jr., and Michael and Vicki Kelly; a sister, Ray Solar; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Lib Dupuy. Preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Lusk Kelly; parents, James Kelley and Lena Duhon Kelly; two sons, Jerry and Patrick Kelly; and two brothers, Roy and Donald Kelly. Pallbearers will be Garth Cook, Daryl Pourciau, James E. "Trey" Kelly III, Darin McGlogan, Justin Bermes, Michael LaSalle, T.J. Martinez and Steve May. Honorary pallbearer is Lester Reeves. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
