

James W. Sanders, native of Robeson, NC and longtime resident of Baton Rouge, LA passed away peacefully on August 26, 2023 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Dozine Medlin Sanders; two children, Phillip Sanders (Susan) and Vicky Sanders; four grandchildren, Troy Holloman, Sean Hollomon (Dawn), Justin Downs (Amber), and John Gray Sanders; five great-grandchildren, Austyn, Brennon “Troy” (Adalyn), Bryce, and Tory Hollomon, and Caitlyn Downs; one great-grandchild, Jasper Hollomon; and one brother, Walt Sanders (Sue). He is preceded in death by his parents, James Burgess and Lillie Mae Jewell Sanders. James proudly served his country in the US Army during the Cuban War, Korean War, and the Vietnam Crisis. He retired in 1969 after being honorably discharged after 22 years of service. James was a longtime faithful member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church. He enjoyed photography and spending time with his beloved wife and loving family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. A visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Friday, September 1, 2023 from 5 pm until 7 pm. A graveside service will be held privately on Saturday, September 2, 2023 prior to visitation at Broadmoor United Methodist Church which will begin at 10:30 am until funeral service at 11:30 am.
