

Jean Degges passed away at The Crossings Hospice on 14 November 2015, at the age of 95. She was born 23 May 1920, in Tralake, MS, and was reared in Centreville and Hollandale, MS, and resided in Baton Rouge LA, since 1943. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Francis McIlwaine Degges. She is survived by her son, Lee Corcoran Degges and wife Ellen, and their sons Douglas Ross Degges and Allen Corcoran Degges of Shreveport, LA, and by her daughter Dr. Margaret Degges Alexander and her husband John of Fleming Island, FL. She is survived by her brother, Henry Joseph Jones and his wife Leone, of Florence, AL, and numerous nieces, nephews, and grand neices and grand nephews. A member of a large devoted family who have preceded her in death: her parents Sydney Ross Jones, Sr., and Lizzie Anderson Jones, her sisters Olive Jones Germany, Sadie Sue Jones, Laura Wilson, brothers Windsor Lee Jones, Thad Anderson Jones, and Sydney Ross Jones, Jr. As an active member of First Presbyterian Church, she served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, Bible moderator, and president of Presbyterian Women, who honored her with a life membership. She was a graduate of Hinds Junior College and the University of Southern Mississippi. She was a member of Chapter C, P.E.O. Religious services will be conducted at First Presbyterian Church, Dunham Chapel on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at 2pm. Visitation will be held at 12:30pm until the service. Graveside services will be held at Greenoaks Cemetery at 10 am. Honorary pallbearers will be Douglas Degges, Allen Degges, Jack Jones, Bob Wilson, Dr. Len Jones, and John Alexander.
