Jean Marie Hodgeson Nauman was born March 18, 1933 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She lived in Baton Rouge for most of her life. She passed away at The Crossings at Clarity Hospice and was 82 years old at the time of her death on February 28, 2016. She was a graduate of Louisiana State University, receiving a BA in French and completing a Masters in Spanish. Even with her advanced education, her primary focus was raising her four children and taking care of her home. She was a devoted wife and mother. She was bilingual and fluent in Spanish and had a lifelong love of Spain and the Canary Islands. She was a member of the Canary Islanders Heritage Society of Louisiana and dedicated many years to the organization by acting as an interpreter and helping to translate historical documents for the Society. She loved to travel and spent a year in Chile with family from 1966-67 and also visited Spain, Italy, Honduras, Australia, and New Zealand, but it was her visits to The Canary Islands that she treasured the most. She was a devout member of St Luke's Episcopal Church in Baton Rouge. She was always an active person who loved the outdoors and was an avid tennis fan. She was a member of Bocage Racquet Club in Baton Rouge and played team tennis for many years. She was a passionate lover of animals, especially cats, and rescued many feline friends over the years. Her love of cats has been passed on to her family who are all cat lovers as well. She is survived by her four children and their spouses Andrea and Larry Richard, Marcus and Tamara Nauman, Stephen Nauman, and Suzanne and Mark LeGrange as well as grandchildren: Amanda Richard Einstein and her husband Tracy, Jason, Melissa, and Jessica Richard, and Julia and Erin Nauman and sisters Sue York and Linda Hodgeson. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Vincent, her parents William and Marie Hodgeson of Central, LA, her sisters Bobbie, Nita, Elaine, and Judith, and her brother Jimmie. Visitation will be at held at St Luke's Episcopal on Thursday March 3 at 11 am with funeral services at 1 pm. Graveside burial service will follow at Greenoaks Funeral Home & Memorial Park. Our family would like to thank the staff of The Crossings at Clarity hospice and Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center for their compassionate care and for the support they gave us during this difficult time. She was treated with the dignity and care that she deserved and it made her passing more bearable. We would also like to thank her sister and our aunt Linda Hodgeson for being providing us with guidance and support that we needed in the end. In lieu of flowers the family requests you consider a donation in her name to The Alzheimer's Association or to St Luke's Episcopal Church.
