
Jere David Johnston died peacefully at his home on Saturday, October 10, 2015 with his wife and four children at his side. His death was caused by respiratory failure resulting from ALS. He was 61 years old. Jere was born and raised in Carlsbad, NM. He was a former resident of Charleston, WV and called Baton Rouge, LA "home" for the past 14 years. Jere graduated from NMSU in 1976 with a BS in Chemical Engineering. In retirement he enjoyed spending time with family and mission work locally and abroad. He has been a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church serving as Sunday school teacher, lay leader and other roles. Jere is survived by his devoted wife, Susan Bartlett Johnston; Mother, Betty Jane Davidson Johnston- Carlsbad, NM; Daughters, Jessica Johnston Janway- Roswell, NM; Sarah Johnston Rispone- Baton Rouge, LA; Sons, Nathan Scott Johnston-Pearland, TX; David Lee Johnston-Ft. Thomas, KY; Sisters, Joyce Johnston Roberts-Mansfield, TX; Mary Ellen Johnston Mullikin-Pendleton, SC; Brothers, Stanley Warren Johnston Jr.-Albuquerque, NM; Larry Frank Johnston-Oro, AZ; Six grandchildren: Justus Janway, Grant Janway, Scott Johnston, Breanna Johnston, Phillip Rispone and Hazel Rispone. He is preceded in death by his father Stanley Warren Johnston Sr. of Carlsbad, NM. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at St. John's United Methodist Church, Baton Rouge LA from 12pm-2pm followed by the memorial service.
