
Jesse Russell Hebert Jr., 66, was born Feb. 21, 1945, in Baton Rouge, and passed away Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2011. Visitation at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church on Tuesday, Aug. 23, from 9 a.m. until a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Interment in Roselawn Cemetery, 4045 North St., Baton Rouge. He grew up in Baton Rouge where his father, Jesse Sr., was manager of the old Lincoln Theater and Hotel and his mother, Gloria, taught first grade at St. Francis Xavier Elementary School. Jesse was a very outgoing and an extremely personable man, who when called upon took loving care of his mother during her convalescence following a hip injury, until her passing in 2008. He attended both grammar and high school at St. Francis Xavier, and graduated from Capitol High School in Baton Rouge. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War as an aircraft electrician aboard the USS Coral Sea and the USS Ranger. Following military service he, along with several businessmen, founded the Marin County Mass Transit Co. in Marin City, Calif. He was preceded in death by his mother, Gloria Veronica; and father, Jesse Russell Hebert Sr. He is survived by a son, Christopher Lemel; two wonderful granddaughters, Katia and Rainey; a sister, Tsehaye; and four brothers, Anthony, Maurice, Myron and Michael. He was loved and cared for by his family and friends and he will be missed.
