Joan Russo May, 92, passed away peacefully at her home on August 5, 2024. She was a native and life-long resident of Baton Rouge. Those who knew Joan often speak of her generosity, good humor and sense of fashion. To her many nieces and nephews, she was beloved Aunt Jenny who regaled us with stories and kept us on our toes. She will always hold a special place in our hearts.
Joan enjoyed working for real-estate developer O.M. Pollard for many years. After he retired, she moved to Fidelity Bank where she worked in the Trust Department for more than ten years. Still vibrant and active, Joan left Fidelity and returned to work for O.M. "Miles" Pollard, Jr. before finally retiring at age 80. She and husband Bill spent many happy years traveling with friends, entertaining family and neighbors, and enjoying their beautiful home.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 44 years, William C. "Bill" May; parents Neno and Josie Pastiro Russo; brother Peter R. Russo and wife Josephine Cusimano Russo; sister Josephine Russo Schillaci and husband Roland; brothers John A. Russo, Sr. and Vincent G. Russo, Sr.; brother Anthony J. Russo, Sr. and wife Joyce Norris Russo. She is survived by sisters-in-law Beatrice Charchio Russo and Lorena Hebert Russo, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Visitation at St. Aloysius Catholic Church on Wednesday, August 14 at 9:00 a.m. until funeral Mass at 11:00am, celebrated by the Rev. Michael J. Alello. Burial in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Pallbearers are John A. Russo, Jr., Paul M. Russo, Stephen R. Russo, Hunter Prendergast, Benjamin Love, and Lucas Love.
The family extends its deepest appreciation to Mrs. Idella Ramsey and Mrs. Paula Crossley for the kind and compassionate care that allowed Joan to remain in her home. We also thank Audubon Hospice Nurse Sunny Brooke Banks and Aide Bobbie Walters for providing comfort and support. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, or the charity of your choice.
