

John David “Shane” “Pops” Smith, a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, March 5, 2023, at the age of 58. He was born in Rosario, Argentina on November 29, 1964. Shane was a field technician with HP Inc. for 32 years, a resident of Denham Springs, LA and a native of Plaquemine, LA. Visitation will be held at Wilbert Funeral Home, Plaquemine on Friday, March 10, 2023, from 5pm to 8pm and will resume on Saturday, March 11, 2023, from 10:30am until Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Plaquemine at 12:30pm. Interment will immediately follow at Grace Memorial Park, Plaquemine. Shane is survived by his wife, Lauren Hymel Smith; sons, Seth Martin and wife, Madeline, and Zach Martin and wife, Gabby; granddaughters, Magnolia and Amelia; stepdaughter, Sarah Ledoux; mother, Sylvia Rivet; siblings, Eric Smith and wife, Sally Zeller, Paige Alleman and partner, Dennis Hebert, Aimee Poche and husband, Mike, and Renee Smith; mother-in-law, May Dean Hymel; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. Shane is preceded in death by his father, David Smith; grandparents, Dego and Violet Rivet; nephew, Kevin Smith; and beloved fur baby, Sadie Mae. Shane loved fishing, playing music, grilling, spending time with family and friends, and going to the beach. He was an avid LSU and Saints fan. Shane had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed bringing laughter to all. He had a kind and giving soul who never met a stranger.
