
BATON ROUGE – John William Gross Sr., 75, passed away September 21, 2024, at his home located in Baton Rouge. A native of New Mexico, Missouri, he was born November 19, 1948, the son of the late James L. Gross Sr. and Helen Miller Gross. At the age of 6 he moved to Jackson, Mississippi. He completed his Bachelor of Science Degree at Mississippi State University. After graduating college, John moved to Baton Rouge Louisiana, where he took a job at DOW Chemical as a Chemical Engineer. He later retired from DOW Chemical due to a health scare. In 2006 he returned to work for Olin Chemical in Henderson, Nevada and later returned home to Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he continued working for Olin in St. Gabriel, LA. John worked with Chlor Alkali products and was a Senior Process Engineer for the company. He retired December 2024. Mr. Gross was a member of Broadmoor Presbyterian Church for many years. His hobbies included wood carving and fishing. As a young man he was an Eagle Scout and took many camping trips.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan C. Gross, mother Helen M. Gross and his brother, James L. Gross JR. Survivors include his two sons John W. Gross JR oldest and David E. Gross his youngest son. He is also survived by his relatives on his wife’s side sisters-in-law: Connie Champagne Linda Champagne Robin Champagne Sandra Champagne. Brother-in-Laws Lynn Champagne Loren Champagne Sidney Champagne. Nieces and Nephews: Amy Champagne Kathy Christian Amber Champagne Meaghan nieces. Nephews: Gannon Champagne and Mason Christian and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
Friends and Family are invited to visitation at a small private family graveside only memorial service 2:00 PM on Feb. 13, 2025. Please arrive 15 minutes early at the front desk at 1:45 PM to be taken out to the grave site. It will take place at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd. Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70815.
