
"John Stephen "Johnny" Land, Sr., age 60, was a kind, generous man who doted on his grandchildren and loved telling stories of family adventures. Sharing educational experiences was a favorite weekend event for "Pawpaw" and the two youngsters. They were his life and his joy. He died Saturday evening, October 15, 2016 having been struck by a car as he crossed Florida Boulevard. He was born September 10, 1956 in Baton Rouge, to James Kenneth Land, II and Margaret Dalferes Land. His Cajun and Creole roots are as deep as the history of Louisiana and include the first settlers of New Orleans and Baton Rouge. Johnny worked with his father and his brothers as a partner in Land and Land Printing, continuing generations of Land family printing. Johnny's grandparents, Edmund J. Land, Sr. and Inez Whitty Land founded Franklin Press. He is survived by his beloved wife, Shari Harvey Land, their son, John Stephen "Buddy" Land, Jr., their two grandchildren, Abrianna Marie "Anna" Land and John Stephen "Bubber" Land, III of Baton Rouge, his sister, Fairly Land Tull and his brother, James Kenneth "Jim" Land, III, both of California. Johnny is preceded in death by his parents and his older brother Robert Edmund "Rob" Land, Sr. A memorial service will be held Monday, October 24, 2016 at The Chapel of the Twelve Apostles, St. James Episcopal Church, 208 North 4th St., at 9:30 a.m. followed by inurnment in the Land family plot, Roselawn Cemetery, 4045 North Street. The family invites all of his friends and family in celebrating Johnny's life. Pawpaw is in Heaven watching over Anna and Bubber.
