

John Lewis Lucas, Jr, born on December 29, 1919, passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at the age of 95 in Carencro, LA. He was a native of Blacksburg, VA. and resident of Baton Rouge for over 50 years. John was a graduate of Virginia Tech (VPI), and retired from Allied Chemical and Formosa Plastic in 1982. He was a member of St. James Masonic Lodge #47, a faithful member of First United Methodist Church, and was the oldest living member of the Baton Rouge Elks Lodge #490 and current member of Plaquemine Lodge. John is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Lou Ella Richard Lucas; parents John and Nellie Gray Lucas; and Brother William Lucas. He is survived by his sister-in-law Eldine Burleigh of Carencro; brother-in-law’s James Roy Richard and wife, Betty of Franklinton and Joe Richard of Sunset; numerous nieces and nephews throughout the United States; and his adopted family Kellye and Roy Chenevert of Baton Rouge; and Cindy and Michael Stewart of Orange Park, FL. The family would like to extend their appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Dugal, Judy Guillory, and all of those who have have cared for John, especially his guardian angel at Evangeline Oaks Nursing Home, Aukie Pisano and caregiver Shirley Thomas for always giving the family a helping hand. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd. Baton Rouge, La. 70815, on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 9am until Funeral Service at 12 pm conducted by Rev. Chris Andrews. The Elk Lodge members will be conducting their ceremony which will begin at 10:30am. Interment will follow at Resthaven Garden of Memory, 11817 Jefferson Hwy. Baton Rouge, LA. 70816.
