
John Ernest Miller, 88, passed away Sunday, Aug. 15, 2010, at The Carpenter House of Baton Rouge. He was born Aug. 6, 1922, in Memphis, Tenn. He was a Navy veteran and graduate of Tulane University and LSU Law School. He was a retired lawyer and landman. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dorothy Landry Miller, of Baton Rouge; daughter, Vanessa Prejean, Central; grandchildren, Blake and Lindsey Prejean, both of Central; brother, Dunn Miller, of Olive Branch, Miss.; sister-in-law, Betty Miller, of McKinney, Texas; sister-in-law, Joyce Millard, of Port Allen; brother-in-law, Myrton Landry, of Baton Rouge; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Samuel and Mrs. Alverta Miller; sister, Polly Fisher; and brothers, Fred Miller and Charles Miller. Visitation at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 445 Marquette Ave., Wednesday, Aug. 18, from 9 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Miles Walsh, celebrant. Private graveside services will be held at a later date at Port Hudson National Cemetery. We wish to offer special thanks to the doctors and nurses who cared for John in his last illness, especially those at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Mid City and St. Joseph Hospice at The Carpenter House.
