Frank was born in Baton Rouge, LA on Nov. 25, 1935 to John F. Sommers, Sr and Dorothy Arbour Sommers. In May 2023, he was diagnosed with PLS and passed away April 1, 2024.
He graduated from BRHS in 1953 and attended LSU. He served in the Army Reserve’s 377th Infantry Regiment, 95th Infantry Division. He retired from Chrysler Credit Financial after 29 years. He enjoyed fishing with his grandsons and teaching all his grandchildren to ski at False River. He also enjoyed playing golf with his brother Michael. He was a faithful LSU and Saints fan.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marion Carr Sommers; Sons Johnny Sommers (Kim), Rusty Sommers; Daughters Cathy Aguillard (Pete), Michele Shamburger (Robert), Barrie Kirkpatrick (Kimmie); Grandchildren Brooke Braud, Dawn Haddad, Brandon Shamburger, Brad Sommers, Darin Aguillard, Allison Sommers; Great-Grandchildren Breahna, Chase, Mason, Athen, Faith, Laken, Chance, Cohen, Claire, Kayden and Elyssa; Brothers Michael and Keily Sommers; Sisters Cordie Willis, Carolyn Brown, Suzanne Franz; and Brother-in-law, Bob Carr.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Lynette Owens, Kenneth and G.C. Sommers.
Honorary Pallbearers will be his Great-Grandsons.
He was a member of St Patrick’s Catholic Church. A graveside service will be held at Greenoaks Memorial Park, 9595 Florida Blvd, on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 1pm.
