

August 28, 1947-February 5, 2021 Baton Rouge native and Central resident, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Johnny was an avid fisherman, hunter, golfer and “John” of all trades. John “Johnny” Davis Versen passed away on February 5, 2021 at the age of 73. Johnny was born to, Alfred Bernard Versen II and Lillie Belle Davis, and was preceded in death by his parents and oldest sister, Sarah Elaine Versen Napoli. He graduated from Baton Rouge high school, he was a retired electrician and a member of the I.B.E.W. Local 995. One of his greatest legacies was serving as Project Manager/ Facility Coordinator at Journey Church for 11 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Debbie Knapp Versen. Johnny is also survived by siblings and their spouses: Alfred B. “Dude” Versen III and Linda Versen; Kathie Versen Duplantis and Tony Duplantis. He is furthermore survived by their children and spouses: Kim Versen Everhart and Ken Everhart; Kellie Versen Bortnick and Mike Bortnick; Amy Nettles Duncan and Mickey Duncan; Andrea Williams Burns; John Davis Versen II and Fiancé Nikki Blanchard. Grandchildren, Kaitlyn Marie Everhart, Klayton Edward Everhart, Mieklan Rose Bortnick, Brayden Nicholas Bortnick, Zachary Lynn Duncan, Gabryel Marie Duncan, Halle Grace Duncan, Caleb Ryan Williams, Riley Marie Williams, Britain Landry Burns and Tryton Blake Harbison. Great granddaughters belonging to Kaitlyn Everhart: Paislee Marie, Aliyah Rose and Kinleigh Faith. Johnny is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. His family was enriched by his four-legged baby, Beignet. His infectious smile, joyful laugh and beautiful blue eyes belong to a tender soul that many found a father figure in. The fishing and hunting trips to Dulac, Big lake and Venice with his son and brother were among many of the good times they had together. As an avid LSU sports fan, he enjoyed autumn Saturdays in Tiger stadium and following the baseball team across the country to Omaha to cheer on the Tigers. His wisdom, guidance and devotion to the Lord will forever be remembered by the people he served at Journey Church as a board member and member of the cooking team and Team Hope. He lives on in all the souls he has touched throughout the years. His heaven is a paradise filled with sunny days and beautiful bodies of water. Visitation will take place at Journey Church, 17407 Greenwell Springs Rd., Greenwell Springs, LA, on Tuesday, February 9th from 6:00pm-9:00pm. Visitation will resume on Wednesday, February 10th at Journey Church, from 9:00am until service time of 11:00am. Interment will immediately follow at Greenoaks Memorial Park, 9595 Florida Blvd. Baton Rouge, LA. “Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things.
