
A resident of Baton Rouge, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006, at Ollie Steele Burden Manor. He was 88 and a native of Tickfaw. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Monday, Oct. 9, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Religious service at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 5990 Perkins Road, on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 10 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Dr. Paul Anderson. Interment will be inPortHudsonNationalCemetery. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of American Legion Nicholson Post 38. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Verlan Eilers Ferrara; son, J.D. Ferrara ofFairfield, Conn.; daughter and son-in-law, Linda F. and Hatley Norton Harrison ofLansdale, Pa.; granddaughter, Elizabeth"Libby" Harrison of Silver Spring, Md.; and a grandson, Scott Harrison ofLansdale. He is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Russell and Antoinette Ferrara; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Katherine and Russell Losavio and Margaret and Warren Stabiler; sister-in-law, Mary Ferrara; and three brothers-in-law, Anthony Orlando, Louis Michel and Denny Losavio. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dominic and Margaret Inzenga Ferrara; brother, Dominic Ferrara; and three sisters, Carmelite Orlando, Jean Michel and Rose Losavio. Joseph was born in Tickfaw on July 19, 1918, and spent his early years helping his parents on a strawberry farm. He served in the U.S. Army for 3"° years. He attended LSU and was a salesperson for Sears Roebuck, D.H. Holmes andGlobeDiscountCenter. He joined Asbestos Local 53 and was employed at various chemical plants in the Baton Rougearea as an asbestos worker. He was recognized as an Outstanding Craftsman for 1981. Special thanks to the staff, workers and residents of Whealdon Estates Retirement Home, 8680 Jefferson Highway, where he lived for the last 13 years of his life.
