Joseph Latina, a devoted Catholic and lifelong resident of Louisiana, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2026, in Baton Rouge at the age of 89. Born on October 8, 1936, in Melville, Louisiana, Joseph lived a life rooted in faith, family, and his passion for gardening. Joseph was the son of the late John Latina and Livonia Latino.
He grew up in Louisiana and carried with him a deep connection to his community and heritage throughout his life. His career as a private gardener allowed him to share his love for nature with others, tending to the beauty of the Baton Rouge area through his work for select clients. Gardening was not only his profession but also one of his greatest joys. A devout Catholic, Joseph found immense comfort and purpose in his faith. Sundays were especially meaningful to him as he cherished attending church services each week. His unwavering devotion to his religion was a cornerstone of his life and brought him great peace.
Joseph was preceded in death by several beloved family members: his parents, John Latina and Livonia Latino; his brother, Nolan Latina; his wife, Rose Marie Latino; his sons, Joey Latina and Samuel Latina; and two grandsons, Robert Coates and Christopher Coates.
He is survived by a loving family who will carry forward his memory: his sisters Lucy Edwards and Karen Mulkey; daughters Linda Wilson and Cindy Latino; grandsons Carl Coates, Michael Coates, Tony Coates, and Thomas Wilson Jr.; granddaughters Angela Wilson, Amanda Wilson, Brandy Meyers, Christina Latino, Danna Fay McGraw, and Jennifer Latino.
Joseph’s legacy lives on through them as they remember him with love and gratitude. Joseph’s life was marked by simplicity and dedication—to his work as a gardener, to the beauty of creation he nurtured daily, to the faith that guided him unwaveringly, and to the family he cherished deeply. May those who knew him find solace in their memories of him.
Funeral arrangements are pending at this time. May Joseph rest in eternal peace.
