

Joseph Lee Ricks passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at the age of 89. He was born in Roseland, LA, and was a resident of Baton Rouge for his entire adult life. He served in the U.S. Navy, and retired from the Baton Rouge Fire Department after many years of service as a fire fighter and budget director. He loved God, his family, country music, his friends, working the daily word jumble, and good cooking. He was a graduate of Amite High School and Southeastern Louisiana University. He was also an avid fan of LSU football.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Esther Murray Ricks, daughters Lauren Ricks Berry (George), Jeannie Ricks Harper (Hal), and son Robert Gage Ricks (Alex). He loved his grandchildren, Bryan and Rachel Harper, Julianna Berry, Jonathan and Tara Ricks, and step-grandson Tyler Oberhoff. He had great-grandchildren, Harry and Elsie Harper, and Joseph Hart, whom he loved dearly. He is also survived by his brother, Raymond Ricks, numerous nieces and nephews, and brothers- and sisters-in law, step-brother Alton Westmoreland and half-sister Lillian Taylor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gage and Alma Ricks, and siblings Margie Simmons, Louise Beysselance, Mary Bergeron, and Gage Ricks.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Goodwood Boulevard Church of Christ.
Visitation will be at Greenoaks Memorial Funeral Home on Saturday, August 6th from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm, with services at 1:00 pm, and will officiated by Pastor Josh Fowler.
Pallbearers will be, Bryan Harper, Jonathan Ricks, Hal Harper, George Berry, Barry Ricks, and Bradley Ricks.
