
Joseph A. "Joe" Schittone Sr. died Saturday, March 14, 2009. He was 86, a native of Tickfaw and a resident of Baton Rouge. He was a retired groceryman/butcher and musician. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, wounded in Okinawa on June 21, 1945, for which he received the Purple Heart. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Monday, March 16, was from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. with recitation of the rosary at 6:30 p.m. Visiting at St. Thomas More Catholic Church on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Entombment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory Mausoleum. He is survived by a son, Joe "Joey" Schittone, of Washington, D.C.; daughter, Debby Lane and husband Bill, of Watson; three stepgrandchildren, Chad Lane and wife Donna, Candace Lane, and Kyle Lane and wife Crystal; four stepgreat-grandchildren, Taylor, Chase, Kyleigh and Kade Lane; and sister, Rose Datz. Preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Marie Genco Schittone; parents, Stephano and Rosario Miceli Schittone; brothers, infant Edgar, Edgar "Kay," Anthony "Tony," Mickey, Joe, Steve, Frank and John Schittone; sisters, Veta Fedele, Sarah Campo, Francis Campo, Fanny Campo and Mary Giaratano. Pallbearers will be Chad and Kyle Lane, Donnie Schittone, Steve Campo, Joe Fedele and Carlos Salazar. Honorary pallbearers are Joe Eddie Schittone, Jack Datz, and his friends and workout buddies at the C.B. Pennington Jr. YMCA.
