Elwana Joyce (Lasiter)Thibodeaux was born in Oklahoma on March 17, 1941. She lived through decades of remarkable change, starting with the early memory of her father coming home from World War II. She spent her early life in Oklahoma, then Louisiana, with two cherished siblings, Larry and Doylene. Despite their being decades apart in age, the siblings shared cheerful banter and relentless Lasiter sarcasm. She attended Rayne High School and met her husband, Louis J. Thibodeaux, when she was sixteen. After attending Louisiana State University, marrying, and having two children, she dedicated her life to nurturing a successful and happy family. Grandy was a devoted wife to Louis, her husband of sixty years, supporting and correcting him at every turn. She showed her dedication to her children through her unwavering presence, making 'being there' her most profound expression of love. Joyce became “Grandy” with the births of her 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren and defied the typical definition of a grandmother. She was their biggest cheerleader, spirited spectator, occasional heckler, costume designer, horse handler, honest critic, and coach. All of her grandchildren agree that their upbringing would not have been possible without Grandy in their corner. She was a steward of her family’s histories, recipes, and heirlooms and made sure they lived on with her children and grandchildren. To the untrained eye, Grandy was simply elegant and demure, but at heart, Grandy was a cowgirl and had Louisiana kick. She shopped the world with Louis on their far-flung travel adventures. She had a lifelong, untamable sweet tooth, never without an obscure candy in tow. She loved pink roses, Prosecco, and dazzling jewelry. She was truly a fancy lady. Joyce is preceded in death by her husband, Louis J. Thibodeaux; her parents, Doyle K. and Ella Corean Lasiter; and her brother, Larry. She is survived by her sister, Doylene Poimboeuf; her son, Jason Scott and wife Carla; her daughter, Michele Thibodeaux McLindon and husband John. She will be forever missed by her seven grandchildren, Phoebe, Natalie, Whitney, Bonnie, Camille, Miles, and Britt, and nine great-grandchildren, John Nathan, Lottie, Jason, Scottie, Darcy, Fitz, Zoey, Mya, and Oakley. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., on Wednesday, April 16, from 1:00-2:00 PM. The funeral and graveside service will follow. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to support the growth of the Louis J. Thibodeaux Youth Sailing Program of the Pelican Yacht Club, 1020 Rossmore Avenue, Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70810. Please visit www.greenoaksfunerals.com to leave condolences to the family.
