

A native of Erwinville and a resident of Baker, died Monday, July 23, 2012, at home surrounded by his family. He was 79 and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a former fireman and a longtime barber at Bergeron Bros. in Baton Rouge, where he worked with his two brothers, Kermit and Gary. On the day they retired twelve years ago, they posted a sign that said, “Closed—“After 43 years of haircuts, some good, some bad, we quit.” Kearney was a member of St Isidore Catholic Church in Baker. He loved to hunt rabbits, train beagles, and cook his famous sauce piquant and gumbo. Humble, loving and sweet, he was a devoted husband, father and Paw Paw. Kearney is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dorothy Kay Bergeron; four daughters, Charmon Breaux and husband Ronnie, Michelle Robertson and husband Jimbo, Darnell Bergeron, and Shasta Toups and husband Clayton; grandchildren, Cheree Burkett and husband Jason, Rachael Pearson and husband Kevin, Lauren Breaux and Blake Huval, Chad Robertson, Chelsea Smith and husband Justin, Hunter Owens, Luke and Sarah Toups; great-grandchildren, Blaine and Ava Burkett; twin brother and best friend, Kermit and wife Ruth “Tiny” Bergeron, and sister Ida Mae Cobb. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Mary Louise Bergeron; three brothers, infant John Ray Bergeron, Malcolm “Man” Bergeron, and Gary Bergeron; two sisters, Rita Bueche and Carole Faye Dykes; and infant grandchildren Danielle Renee Robertson and David Duncon, Jr. Pallbearers will be Chad Robertson, Hunter Owens, Luke Toups, Blaine Burkett, Jason Burkett, Kevin Pearson and Justin Smith. Visitation will be at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., Wednesday, July 25, 2012, from 5pm to 9pm. Visiting will resume on Thursday, July 26, 2012 from 10am until religious services at noon. Interment with military honors will be in Greenoaks Memorial Park
