
"Larry Maurice Oubre, 91, passed away peacefully at Sunrise Assisted Living on Sunday October 9, 2016 at 10:15 PM. He was a resident of Baton Rouge, LA. He was born November 11, 1924 in Smoke Bend, Louisiana. He served his country honorably as a Seaman 1st class in the United State Navy aboard the USS Suisun during World War II. He worked as a watch repairman in his own jewelry store in North Baton Rouge. He later retired from the City of Baton Rouge after 25 years of service where he was a traffic signal maintenance supervisor. He was an avid golfer playing until age 89, an artist and enjoyed Cajun dancing with his wife at Mulate's and Boutin's. He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Anna May Pearl (Bing) Rodigue Oubre, his son Larry Oubre, Jr DDS and wife Sandy, daughter Karen Messenger and husband Clyde, and daughter Kim Gautreau and husband Curt, grandchildren Kassie Hsu and husband Joe, Laura Sajdak and husband Brian, Wendy Day and husband Rusty, Ami Whiddon and husband Wayne, Eric Miller and wife Brooke, John Miller, Joseph Miller and wife Claire, Gerald Miller, Blake Messenger and wife Brittany, Catherine Messenger, Natalie Messenger, Jeffrey Gautreau and Anna Renton and husband Lance. He is also survived by 18 great grandchildren and two sister-in-laws, Lucy Oubre and Lucille Oubre. Larry was preceded in death by his parents Morris P. and Rita Rome Oubre, Brothers Marcel, Cecil, John and Sister Doris Oubre. Visitation will be held Thursday Morning, October 13 at St. George Catholic Church at 7808 St George Drive in Baton Rouge, Louisiana from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 AM conducted by Fr. Michael Schatzle.
