
A resident of Baton Rouge, she died at 5:05 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2008, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Bluebonnet. She was 93, born Dec. 14, 1914, to Arthur and Ola June Davis in Forest. At an early age she moved to Baton Rouge with her family. She graduated from Istrouma High School and Spencer-Draughn Business College. She retired from the Louisiana Department of Social Services and the Louisiana Division of Administration in the 1970s, having worked as a private secretary. Survived by her son, John E. Hernandez III; grandsons, Jay, Bob and Lonnie Hernandez; daughter, June H. Guillory and husband Joe B; grandsons, Jeff, and John and wife Christie; granddaughter, Jill Guillory; sister, Anne Rouse, Onalaska, Texas; stepson, Mike Boyd and wife Donna; stepgrandson, David and wife Kathy, Houston; stepson, John Boyd and wife Elaine, Denver; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other extended family. Preceded in death by her parents; husbands, John E. Hernandez Jr. and Elbert E. Boyd; daughter-in-law, Virginia Hernandez; brothers, Arthur Davis and wife Alva, and W. Roy Davis and wife Ruby; and sisters, Daisy Partin Underwood and husband Mort, Grace Neames and husband Clifford, and Zola Freeman Pino and husband Elgin. She was a member of Istrouma Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading, especially her Bible, traveling and growing flowers and vegetables. Reception and visitation at Istrouma Baptist Church, 10500 Sam Rushing Drive, at Airline Highway, on Monday, March 3, from 11:30 a.m. until service in the chapel at 2 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Ron Lambe. Interment in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Istrouma Baptist Church. Arrangements by Rabenhorst Funeral Home.
