

Lillian Ann Champagne Broussard, born Jan. 6, 1920, died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, April 29, 2007. She lived most of her life celebrating life, which was evident to all who knew her. A lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, she was born to Sidney R. And Lilly Babin Champagne. She graduated fromUniversityHighLabSchooland earned a bachelor's degree in business from LSU in 1940. On Nov. 19, 1941, she married her teenage sweetheart, Thaddeus Arlington Broussard. The two of them enjoyed 63 loving years together. During World War II, she worked at Standard Oil Co., and later put her education to good use helping Thaddeus manage his architectural firm. During their married life, she was a member of many community and civic organizations, and was a founding member of the Krewe of Romany. She enjoyed her garden club, was an envied cook, but most important, she was the consummate mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She is survived by her two children, Dr. Thad Stephens Broussard of Baton Rouge, and Ann Elizabeth Broussard Walker of Richardson, Texas, and their spouses, Lisa Herr Broussard and William David Walker, along with four grandchildren, Carole Ann Walker Carruth of Hattiesburg, Miss., Elise Adele Walker of Richardson and Melissa Lynn Broussard and Meredith Ashley Broussard, both of Baton Rouge, a great-granddaughter, Kendall Shea Carruth, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sidney Champagne and Lilly Babin Champagne; brother, Luther Champagne; sister, Ruth Champagne Campanella; and husband, Thaddeus A. Broussard. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., on Wednesday, May 2, from 9 a.m. until Rite of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Burial in Roselawn Memorial Park.
