Lucy Van Bibber Chesney

A much loved mother, grandmother and friend, she died at 12:08 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011, after an extended illness. She was born in Huntington, W.Va., on Feb. 26, 1927. On Aug. 15, 1949, a Monday, she married the love of her life, Perry Lamar Chesney Sr. She worked as a school teacher and spent much of her time serving the church in many ways in Baton Rouge. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., on Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation at South Baton Rouge Church of Christ on Saturday from 10 a.m. until funeral service at 11 a.m., conducted by Eddie Parish. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory at 2:30 p.m. She is survived by two sons, Perry L. Chesney Jr., of Atlanta, and Patrick Doniphan Chesney, of Baton Rouge; two daughters, Peggy Ann Lester, of Lake Park, Ga., and Shannon Lee Doherty, of Jonesboro, Ark.; two sons-in-law, Douglas Lester and David Doherty; a daughter-in-law, Shelley Privett Chesney; 12 grandchildren, Lauren Bewley, Zachary and Chesney Paige Lester, Delauné Carleson, Tevis and Colby Chesney, Allison, Aaron and Austin Doherty, and Evan, Claire and Kaylan Chesney; and a nephew, Ted Vehse. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Perry L. Chesney, who was of Baton Rouge; sister, Florence Van Bibber; parents, Cyrus Biggs Van Bibber and Florence Lee Holiday; and grandson, Cole Patrick Chesney. Pallbearers will be Zachary Lester, Tevis Chesney, Aaron Doherty, Evan Chesney, Austin Doherty, Lloyd Jones Sr. and Greg Douglas. Honorary pallbearers are Brent Chesney, George Myer, Jeff Fierro, Richard Felix Sr. and Bo Coburn. She graduated from the University of Texas in Austin. She will be greatly missed by her friends and loved ones from the Baton Rouge area, especially her grandchildren, who called her Mimi, and those from South Baton Rouge Church of Christ, where she had been a member for many years.
