Lynea Sprung Hambrice, 36, of Baton Rouge, passed away after a tragic fall in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, on Thursday, July 30, 2009. She came into this world as the first child of Robert and Dorothy Sprung. Her transformational years from a child to a woman took place in Springfield, Mo., where she graduated from Kickapoo High School in 1991, studied for one year at Missouri State, before transferring to LSU. Here she majored in vocal performance (BA) and earned a master's degree in education, graduating with honors in both programs. Professionally, Lynea was the coordinator of Graduate Student Services for the LSU music department which encompassed assisting all graduate students from the application process through the completion of their degrees. It also required assisting in graduation ceremonies and serving as the School of Music representative at the main graduation service. Prior to her last position, she was resource assistant at the LSU Lab School and taught fourth grade at Trinity Episcopal School. She also served the Baton Rouge community with the Junior League as the chairwoman in a variety of capacities and fully supported the promotion and mission of this important charity. But Lynea's heart's desire was singing. One of the highlights was being an integral part of the LSU a cappella choir that gained national and international recognition. Years of study and discipline brought forth a beautiful, artistic, lyric soprano voice immediately recognized no matter the setting. Selfless determination, with sparkling eyes and a bright smile, was the calling card she brought to all of her endeavors whether as a mother, singer, teacher, mentor, friend, chairperson, or confidant. Regardless of the circumstance or situation, Lynea remained fully engaged and cherished life. She was greatly loved by all, especially her family being affectionately known as "PDOTH" - Precious Daughter of the Household. Though all who knew her grieve at the loss of such a lovely person, we have the assurance of Scripture bearing witness that her soul has now risen into the presence of the Lord and joins in the angelic host leading to the crescendo that hails "glory to God in the highest." She is survived by her parents, Robert and Dorothy Sprung; brother, Bobby; two children, Ella Grace, 6, and Claire Elizabeth, 4. Her son, Zachary Taylor Hambrice, preceded her in death. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6. A private family service will be held on Friday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lynea Sprung Hambrice Scholarship for the LSU School of Music through the LSU Foundation.
